Administrative Update

Dear Fairfield Community,


As you may be aware, at the June 28th board meeting, the board abolished the principal positions and the supervisor of special services position due to a district reorganization for economic reasons.  In turn, they approved the dual roles of a Director of Curriculum and Instruction/Principal (to be housed at Stevenson) and Director of Special Services/Principal (to be housed at Churchill). 

Two committees, consisting of seven (7) members each, were created to interview qualified candidates for the new positions.  The Director of Special Services/Principal position’s candidates were interviewed on July 19, and the Director of Curriculum & Instruction/Principal position’s candidates were interviewed on July 20. 

Both committees selected two (2) candidates to fill each of the above mentioned positions.  The successful candidates are:  Mr. Raymond Santana to fill the Director of Special Services/Principal position at Churchill and Dr. Michael Trabucco to fill the Director of Curriculum and Instruction/Principal position at Stevenson. 

They were both approved at the August 2, 2016 board meeting. 

It is my hope that we will work together to support them in these roles.  Please contact me if you have any questions and/or concerns.

Stevenson Summer Information

Clarification on the Summer Math Packets: There are a total of 35 pages in the online Stevenson summer math packets. We were originally going to upload 5 sheets per week over a 7 week period. Many parents reached out asking if all 35 sheets could go live at once. The request was granted. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

The New Jersey Department of Education is asking for your input into the kind of public school information that you would like reported annually. This is your opportunity to tell the state exactly what you want to see in the School Performance Reports (formerly called the School Report Cards) to ensure that you have access to information that can help you determine the quality of your local public schools. 


You are asked to spend approximately five minutes to complete the survey by way of the link below. The survey is entirely voluntary and anonymous. It will only ask for general demographic and school information so the Department of Education can ensure it is getting a representative sample from all parts of the state.

The survey is one way the Department of Education is reaching out to communities to gain further insight about how New Jersey can continually improve its public reporting about the schools. Dear Fairfield School District Community,


The Fairfield School District continues to be committed to providing our students with the best possible educational environment and to create and sustain a positive school climate where students feel safe, supported, academically challenged, and inspired.  To that end, members of our staff have been active participants in the School Support Network convened by United Way of Northern New Jersey this school year and recently the District formally committed to working with the School Culture and Climate Initiative: a partnership between United Way of Northern New Jersey and the College of Saint Elizabeth.


As you may already be aware, the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights requires every school to assess and address issues of culture and climate.  With support from the School Culture and Climate Initiative, we will be able to ensure not only compliance with the state mandate but also that our efforts to address culture and climate are sustainable and have lasting positive impact. An important part of the process is the assessment of culture and climate. We are planning to conduct an assessment of both Stevenson and Churchill’s school climate and culture by surveying our faculty and staff, students in grades 3-6, and parents. Children in grades K-2 will participate in informal age-appropriate guided conversations about their perceptions of the culture and climate in their school.


The survey seeks to solicit staff, student and parent perceptions of both Stevenson and Churchill School’s environment from the standpoint of academic, social, and emotional perspectives.  Different versions of the survey will be used for the various groups taking the survey. This survey is one component of the process.  In addition to the survey, the School Culture and Climate Initiative will provide in-depth data analysis and 3 years of support as our school community intentionally focuses on creating the very best environment where all children can thrive.


All students, faculty and parents will take part in the survey during the week of June 6, 2016.  The students in grades K-2 will be taking a paper and pencil version of the survey using “Scantron” forms. Third through sixth grade students will take the survey online via SurveyMonkey. Faculty, staff members and parents will be taking the survey online via SurveyMonkey. The survey is not long and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete.  If you have children in both Stevenson and Churchill, please take both surveys considering each building has its own unique culture and climate.


It is important to consider the following points in relation to the survey:  the survey seeks “perceptions” of the various groups and from these perceptions we will be able to identify strengths as well as possible areas for growth.  The survey results should not be thought of as “hard data”, but rather as baseline information to be used as a starting point and a guide as each school works to improve their culture and climate.  We see this survey as an important step in providing our students with the best possible educational experience in the Fairfield Public School District.
